A "bump" or two in the road
I am a little hesitant to blog this since it could get back to my kids. But, I'm hoping it will relieve some guilt! Of our 7 puppies we had a few months ago, the kids begged us to keep one. We let them even though we already have 2 dogs. All 3 of the kids LOVE this dog. His name is Patch and he is sooooooooo cute. He is black with a white patch over half of his face and white paws. The kids go out everyday and play with him. Even Shelbee walks outside and yells "PATCH"! Devin especially loves to play with this puppy. So, Saturday night, I HAD to run to Payson market for a little more sugar. How pathetic. I already had enough to fix my sugar addiction for a month. The kids and Chad were watching a movie, so I "snuck" out. I'm driving down my driveway and all of the sudden, I felt a thump.....thump underneath the tahoe. AHHHHHHHH.... I knew immediately what I had done. My stomach dropped and I started to bawl, I stopped and looked in the rear view mirror and saw this bump in the driveway. I was freaking out. I rolled down the window praying that patch wasn't crying, and there was only silence. I am frantically trying to call Chad and it felt like an eternity before he answered the phone. When he answered I was bawling and I said, "I ran over the puppy"! He came right out, luckily the kids didn't seem to notice Chad had come outside. All I could think about was how upset the kids would be! Chad said, we'll just have tell them he's lost or something. So, when I came back in the house, the kids knew I had been crying and were asking me what was wrong. Of course I am way too big of a chicken to fess up. I told them I was just tired and had a lot of paperwork that I was behind on. The next day we went to church and the kids didn't seem to notice since we go at 9. But, when we got home the drama began. As soon as we got home from church, the kids were looking for patch. To my surprise Sydnee was bawling the most. We were busy going to Chad's moms then my moms, and gone pretty much the whole day. But, we managed to fit in the drive up and down our road hollering out the window yelling "Patch, Patch"! Talk about a tear jerker! Once again, I win mother of the year! They seem to be okay a few days later. Chad told the kids we could have some more baby puppies soon that they could keep one again. Every once in awhile Syd or Devin will say "I miss Patch" just out of blue. The salt in the wound will continue for a long time I'm sure. HAPPY EASTER, SORRY KIDS!

poor patch! what a sad day!
Oh that is so terrible. I felt the same way when we lost our dog and she was out running the streets of Provo for 5 days while we were in Mexico. I still can hardly believe that she survived. It sounds to me like you handled it the best you could. Sometimes we have to do that for our kids. What a sad day for you! I'm so sorry!
Old Yeller but worse... just get that new puppy and all will be well. my mom ran over my pup in highschool and I still loved her after I bawled for like 2 days. Sad story:(
